After three days of jury selection, trial began in fentanyl overdose death of UL Lafayette student

The murder trial in the fentanyl overdose death of ULL student JonTerez Broussard began Wednesday afternoon after three days of jury selection proceedings.


Lead prosecutor Lance Beal, assistant district attorneys Roya Boustany, Cori Phelps and defense attorney Richie Houghton settled on 15 jurors (12 voting jurors and three alternates) that will hear the case.


Defendant Damien Bernard of Arnaudville, faces a charge of second-degree murder in October 2021 death.
